Your 11 ABC Non-Fiction book reports (in the form of One-Pagers) are due May 15th! To make sure you have yours ready, you will need to turn these in, according to these checkpoint dates:
2 one-pagers are due: February 6th
3 one-pagers are due (now you’ll have 5): March 6th
3 one-pagers are due (now you’ll have 8): April 10th
3 one-pagers + cover are due (now you’ll have your finished book!): May 15th
Guidelines
Throughout the semester you will read 11 non-fiction books. You will record facts from what you learned throughout your reading. I recommend that you read at least one non-fiction book a week in order to complete the assignment by the due date. Note: this is a great assignment to work on after you finish another assignment and you wonder, “What do I do now?” You may work on this assignment during reading workshop and at home. Use the attached planning chart to keep up with each book you read. Planning is KEY during this project!
You must include in your readings at least one book on each of these topics: science, music, art, history, and geography.
Here are some examples of topics you could read about:
Science: Electricity, Bats, Solar System
Music: Mozart, The Beatles, Violins
Art: Van Gogh, Origami, The Louvre
History: Alamo, Civil War, Internet
Geography: Greece, Kenya, Antarctica
The above topics count for 5 of your 11 books. The other 6 are entirely up to YOU. Read books that you are interested in or what you have always wondered about. Have fun with this assignment and learn a lot!
You will produce a “one-pager” for each book you read. Follow the rubric on the one-pager. Your work should follow this carefully. Please do your neatest and best work.
