Meet Ms. Funderburk
Ms. Fun braves the cold in the name of RECESS!
My name is RuthAnn Funderburk (friends call me RA). This is my 12th year to teach at Hyer, and I want you to know how honored I am to be a member of this esteemed district.
Just to briefly fill you in …. Many years ago, I taught English on the secondary level for 8 years (my first year I taught senior English, Class of ’78, but I spent the bulk of my teaching in 8th grade, including TAG). After leaving secondary education, I spent the next 17 years working in various capacities at law firms – from legal assisting to recruiting.
Off and on during those years out of the classroom, I knew my heart tugged to go back to teaching, but I realized if I did, I would want to teach elementary. On a wing and a prayer, I quit my job and went back to school, earning my elementary certificate from SMU in 2002 and later my Master’s degree in 2008. (It’s great fun to go back to school when you can really appreciate it!)
I am passionate about many things. In addition to teaching 4th graders, I am passionate about (and these are listed in no certain order ... they're all at the top!): spending quality time laughing with my friends & family (4-footed ones included!), church, reading, grammar, exercise, cooking/nutrition, nature, animal welfare and leaving the tiniest footprint possible on our environment.
Parents, my goal this year is to provide a safe, warm and loving environment in which your child will thrive educationally, socially and emotionally. But I can’t do this alone. I believe a large piece of the educational puzzle rests in a strong parent-teacher partnership. I look forward to working with you to make this – your child’s last year at Hyer – a fun, happy and memorable year.
