Tribal Cereal Box Directions and Rubric - Due November 22, 2013
Dear Parents,
Our class has been learning about some of the different Native American Tribes that have inhabited Texas. As a final unit project, your child will create a Cereal Box Report. S/he has done some of the research work at school and will still need to do some more research about the chosen tribe. The actual project will need to be completed at home.
I am attaching the project instructions and the rubric I will be using to grade. While you are invited to help them on some aspects of this project, I want this to be at least 90% child-generated (100% is all the better still).
I cannot wait to see the final products!
Thanks!
RA
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Directions~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
1. Get an EMPTY cereal box.
2. Research a Texas tribe that you would want to join. Look for where they lived (in Texas), ceremonies/customs, appearance, tools, food, dwellings, family life, fun facts, etc.
3. During your research, find a tribe that you would NOT like to join. Research a few things about that tribe and be able to explain WHY you do not want to be a part of their tribe.
4. Your best friend in this project is the rubric. Use it to help guide you in creating all the aspects of your project.
**Your project should be colorful, neat and informative!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Rubric~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Front of Cereal Box includes title of tribe and a picture representing the tribe (daily life, where lived, etc.)
Back of Cereal Box:
Based on what you know about your tribe, design a piece of pottery, a piece of jewelry, an article of clothing, a child’s toy, etc., that you think your tribe might have had.
Presentation:
Is your project neat? (good handwriting, clear illustrations, colorful, etc.)
Writing:
How is your overall spelling, grammar and sentence structure?
