Sample Expository (written by Ms. Fun about her brother)
I grew up with a brother, Vern, who had a great sense of humor and brought a lot of joy and laughter into our house. I'm not surprised that he grew up to be a great father whom his children deeply admire.
First, Vern made up many games to play with his four kids when they were little, but their favorite game was one he played with his daughter Hayley. It involved Bun-Bun, a very scraggly, worn-out stuffed rabbit. She loved that toy and couldn't sleep without it. Every night while she was taking her bath, Vern would sneak in her room, grab Bun-Bun and hide it. Sometimes he'd stick the bunny inside her lamp with just one ear peeking out. Hayley would come out of her bath, yawn, crawl into bed and scream, Hey! Where's Bun-Bun? And the fun would begin. She told me later that -- after she was 12 or so -- she tired of the game because she had outgrown it, but she wanted to keep up the fun so as not to hurt her dad's feelings.
Second, Vern was active in his boys' sports. He could be found at all their practices and games. His son Justin said that his dad would tirelessly practice throwing the football until Justin was able to throw a "bullet."
Finally, Vern has served as a great spiritual role model for his children. He is a deacon in his church and has served in several leadership roles. He can always say the most beautiful, touching prayers at the dinner table, prayers that show his deep faith.
My brother has many admirable qualities. I feel lucky to have him as a brother, and his children are blessed to call this very special man their dad.
